Mieka thinks her crotch smells like the ocean and when she has sex wonders if the other person notices. Her pubic hair is black which she shapes into a stripe with a razor when she thinks about her biological father. She lies on a couch with her feet up. She sneezes and thinks she is getting sick. She wonders if a virus is less dirty if you contract it from someone you love. She picks her nose and wonders if she’s pregnant. She begins to feel hungover and tries to remember if she drank anything the night before. Mieka thinks, “I want to move but I don’t want to do things.” She is wearing white underwear and black knee-length socks. She lets her arms hang off the couch and thinks, “It would be nice if I had a cat or dog to pet right now.” She reads the book Lies My Teacher Told Me for an hour and her eyes begin to hurt. She puts the book down and sees a newspaper on the coffee table. Mieka thinks about reading the every section in the newspaper. She tells herself she can make it a daily practice. She thinks, “If I read the newspaper everyday I will become a genius in a few years because I will have heightened understanding of the world and most current events.” She feels distracted by the choice of what section of the newspaper to read first and falls asleep. In her dream she tells herself, “You look like you’re getting sick” and she tells herself “I think I’m just hungover.” She stares at herself and she stares right back.
